The concept of individuation is central to Jungian therapy and refers to the psychological evolution of an individual over his/her lifetime. Individuation involves the deepening of one’s self-awareness, which happens through owning aspects of oneself previously rejected and the reconciliation of opposites within the psyche. As one moves towards self actualization one becomes more whole and authentic, and as a result more compassionate. From a Jungian perspective, self-actualization allows us to respond more productively, creatively, and adaptively to life. Jungian therapy helps integrate aspects of our unconscious dynamics that are seen as the cause of fragmentation and suffering.
